It’s possible to find good deals, Believe It
Trying to decorate dorm rooms and dress stylishly all on a student budget can seem daunting, but with thrift stores like Believe It, which is located on Main Stree in Logan, both are becoming more manageable.
Dave Nolan, manager of Believe It, said he thinks the store cuts students a break when no one else seems to. The goal of the store is to be affordable to everyone, especially students, he said.
“Desert Industries is a rip-off,” Nolan said. “The sad truth is that DI is so expensive compared to other thrift stores around the country.”
Nolan said with students being a huge part of the shoppers at thrift stores and being a student himself, he thinks it is extremely important to help the students out.
“We want to help college students out because we know what it is like to be a college student,” Nolan said. “We have student discounts Monday through Thursday where students get 10 percent off of their entire purchase.”
Mike Meryhew, undeclared freshman and employee at Believe It, said when he first moved to Logan from Salt Lake, he asked his landlord where the thrift store was and when he went to other thrift stores, he was shocked to find out how expensive they were.
“The thrift stores up here are even more expensive than the thrift stores in Salt Lake,” Meryhew said. “The prices are better here at Believe It, and the staff is around to help.”
The building where Believe It is located, which looks smaller on the outside than it is on the inside, carries a large selection, including furniture, clothes, electronics and other equipment. Meryhew said the selection is just as good as any place else.
“The DI may be bigger, but our selection is about the same,” Meryhew said. “The only thing better about the DI is that more people know about it.”
Lorene Nance, junior in technical writing and avid thrift store shopper, said she shops at thrift stores because they allow students to buy things they normally couldn’t afford.
“Shopping at thrift stores is kind of a treasure hunt,” Nance said. “If you look, you can find that one thing that everyone asks where you got it, and then you can proudly declare you only paid $5 for it.”
Nolan said he feels the ability to get a great item for a good price is really what college students want.
“The lowest price around, that is what students are looking for,” Nolan said. “We are trying to help people out.”
Nolan said when people make purchases at the store, it not only benefits them with a low price but it also benefits three different charities, including Four Paws, the Family Resource and Support Center and the Volunteer Center.
“We want people to know that their purchases and their donations are helping other people out,” Nolan said.
Nance said even though shopping at thrift stores is not the easiest way to shop because it requires digging around to find things, she said she thinks it is well worth the hunt.
“Shopping at thrift stores is not as convenient as shopping at Wal-Mart, but it is a lot more fun than shopping anywhere else,” Nance said.
With the selection and prices of Believe It, more furniture and clothes can finally be within reach. You better Believe It.
