Kristin White named Aggie gymnastics coach
LOGAN — Utah State Athletics announced that Kristin White will be the new Utah State gymnastics head coach. White replaces Amy Smith who is now the head coach at Clemson University.
Director of athletics John Hartwell announced his new hire on Friday in a press release.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kristin White to the Aggie family,” Hartwell said. “Under Kristin’s leadership, we are confident the upward trajectory of our gymnastics program will continue.”
Utah State is coming off one of its best seasons in school history. They won the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference championship for the first time last season. The win helped them qualify for the NCAA Norman Regional where they finished third, with 196.825, a program-best score for an NCAA meet, in session one of the second round.
“The Aggies are coming off a historic season and it was very clear from the moment I stepped on campus that the administration is committed to excellence,” White said. “Our student-athlete experience will be at the forefront of the program, and I look forward to getting to Logan and empowering our young women to success in the classroom and on the competition floor.”
White was a gymnast at Oklahoma where she graduated in 2010 as a member of the national runner-up team at the NCAA National Championships. She also helped her team win three Big 12 Conference championships.
White started coaching as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma in 2010. She then coached a club team for five years before returning to collegiate gymnastics as an assistant coach at Iowa State. In 2021, White became an assistant coach at Arizona State where she helped the Sun Devils become one of the best programs in the nation finishing ranked at No. 9 in 2021 and No. 22 in 2022. She was also named the 2021 WCGA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Jessica Santos, Arizona State co-head coach, said she is “absolutely thrilled about this opportunity for Kristin.”
“She has been essential in our success here over the past two seasons and she will bring that same dedication and care to Utah State,” Santos said. “She has a tremendous passion for the sport of gymnastics and we look forward to watching her thrive as she takes this next step in her coaching career.”
The Aggies open their next season in January 2023.
