Lacrosse club looks to win Division B

Expectations are high for the Utah State University lacrosse club team Saturday as they take on Boise State University in Idaho, at 1 p.m. The team will look for its third straight win.

Last season against Boise the Aggies ended up 0-2. In the first game they lost by one point and in the second game by only two points.

This season the Aggies have a little different ending in mind, coach Jeremy Miller said.

“We feel confident and we’re looking forward to beating them,” Miller said. “It will be sweet revenge.”

And looking at records this season, the upper hand goes to the Aggies.

In their only game thus far, Boise lost to Utah Valley State College, a team USU beat 7-5 in Provo, which has contributed to the 2-0 record the Aggies now have. USU also defeated the University of Southern Colorado 7-2.

Not only will USU be playing for revenge, but it is also playing to show their division they are serious, Miller said.

“This year we’re actually expecting to not lose a game,” he said. “We’re going to take Division B championship.”

The Aggies finished last season with a 7-10 record, which has put them at No. 7 this season in the coaches’ poll for their division, a division with 10 teams. Boise is one of those teams ranked above USU.

Despite their record last season and their ranking this season, the Aggies sincerely feel they have a shot at being Division B champions, Miller said, and they are counting on teamwork to help them out.

“Everybody on this team feels like they have a friend,” he said. “There’s a real strong unity.”

Five players for the Aggies are in their first year, and about the same number of players are transfers, which means most of the players on the team are veterans. In fact the whole starting line consists of returning players.

The returning players and the team unity are what the Aggies are counting on to lead them to a Division B championship, Miller said, and it starts Saturday in Boise.

“We’re expecting to win this weekend,” he said. “It’s going to be a physical game. They like to hit and play hard, so we’re going to have to just hit and play hard.”
