The Utah State University men’s club lacrosse team will play two important games against Western State University (Colo.) on Friday and the University of Utah on Saturday.

Utah State hopes to gain sole possession of second place as they play Western State Friday at Weber State’s home field. Both teams currently have a 1-0 record in Division II play.

In Saturday’s game against the Utes, Utah will attempt to avenge the loss they received from the Aggies during the fall season. In that game, the Aggies prevailed over the Utes, 14-10, in Salt Lake City.

“We played them in the fall and beat them,” defenseman Kyle Liljenquist said. “I’m sure it will be a really good game. They’ve got some new guys who should help them out.”

To be successful, the Aggies will have to overcome problems they had last week against Boise State. In the game USU was missing four key players because of injuries and eligibility issues.

Leading scorer and captain Albe Garner will be out for at least a month with a broken collarbone, but the eligibility problems should be cleared up.

In order to win this weekend’s games, the Aggies know they will have to overcome their recent trials.

“We really have had a string of bad luck with injuries,” Liljenquist said. “We’ll miss those guys, but it will be nice to have the guys back who couldn’t play last week because of eligibility. I think we’ll do well.”

Liljenquist also said he believes the defense, who has played extremely well this season, will be a key to winning this weekend’s games.

“It should be a lot of fun,” Liljenquist said. “We just want to have a good season and win a championship.”
