In two games which defenseman Matt Polityka called “hard fought, defensive battles,” the Utah State University men’s club lacrosse team started the spring season off with two big wins against Southern Colorado and Utah Valley State College.

The first game, against a new Southern Colorado program, ended in a 6-2 win. Captain Paul Larkin credits goalie Jake Morrison, Polityka and the rest of the defense for coming up big.

In the second game, the Division II Aggies defeated UVSC (Division I), 7-5 on UVSC’s home field.

“It was a big win for us,” Morrison said. “The defense kept us in there.

Last time we got all mad at each other, but we kept our heads about us and won the game.”

The two wins give the Aggies a 2-0 start in their spring season and a bright outlook for the future.

“These games just show how good our team cohesion is to be able to come out early and win like this,” Polityka said. “A lot of new guys were able to come together and help out.”

Morrison said new players Brock and Derald Miller played especially well in their Aggie debut and that the win “was a big lift for all of the new guys.”

“This game shows us that winning division II is not that far out of our grasp,” Morrison said. “We have some big games coming up against Boise State and the University of Utah.”

The Aggies next two games will be at home on March 22 and 23 against Western State and the University of Utah.

Morrison also wanted to send a special thanks to the eight girls from Bullen Hall who attended their games in Orem over the weekend.
