Late field goal puts Aggies up at the half
It’s pretty apparent the numbers 1-11 ticked off the USU football team in the offseason.
At the half the Aggies lead the Runnin’ Rebels of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, 10-3.
Aggie tailback Aaron Lesue fumbled three times, but also leaped over a UNLV defender for a two-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to give USU a 7-3 advantage.
In the meantime USU’s defense made what can properly be called gigantic strides from 2006.
UNLV quarterback Travis Dixon has passed for zero yards on only three attempts. The Rebel running game is equally stagnant, having gained only 47 yards on 17 carries.
Aggie quarterback Leon Jackson III is 9-for-11 passing. Linebacker Jake Hutton and defensive end Ben Calderwood have combined for nine tackles.
As the half wound down, Aggie punt returner Kevin Robinson ran took the ball 49 yards up field to get the Aggies in field goal range. With one second on the clock, freshman kicker Peter Caldwell nailed a 38-yard field goal to put the Aggies up 10-3 at the half.
