Let’s celebrate USU Engineers

ASUSU Engineering Senator

This year the College of Engineering has seen the dedication of the new David G. Sant Innovation building, first class research on green plastics, bio fuels, unmanned robotic vehicles, structural safety, had first place winners in a NASA rocket competition watch the last rocket launch and run a student organized triathlon. We’ve been able to get a new building, continue amazing programs, projects and research. We have been involved with student run activities, such as organizing the Epsilon sprint triathlon, designing and building the howl maze, donating a Christmas Tree to a local family, organizing a mentoring program for freshmen and sophomore engineering students. This week is all about engineering. It is the place to get a top notch education with challenging classes, practical experience and have tons of fun. We work hard and play hard, and this week we are definitely going to play hard.
We’re having tons of fun activities for Engineering Week. On Wednesday Senator Garn, U.S. senator, pilot and astronaut, is going to be giving a lecture in the TSC Lounge at 2:30 p.m. Right after at 4:30 our stunningly beautiful female engineers are going to be competing for the title of Miss Engineering Queen.
If two phone books are layered page by page, it is impossible to break the friction between them and pull them apart – is it true? Come to the TSC Lounges Thursday, Feb. 19 at 11:30 a.m. to break or prove this myth with us. Stick around after for Aggie Ice Cream and to compete in our Engineering Club Competitions for sweet prizes. There are tons of different competitions including the Calculator Quick Draw, Sumo Battle Bots, Beta Bowl (trivia game), Magnetic Cannon, Water Filter, Edible Car, Miniature Car Rally, Paper Tower and more. The rules are available in the Engineering Advising Office. All the competitions are sponsored by engineering clubs and organizations.
On Friday we’re having one more competition – a snow fort building competition sponsored by Alternative Breaks to help raise money for USU students to go help clean up hurricane damage in Texas. It’s at 1 p.m. on the Quad. There will be prizes and free hot chocolate. After all the playing this week we are going to end with our Engineering Banquet at the Coppermill and a relaxing movie night with the College of Education, Disney and Pixar’s “Wall-E” in the ESLC auditorium at 8 p.m. To get more involved in the College of Engineering or for more information contact Victoria Kmetzsch at usu.ecouncil@gmail.
