LETTER: Adopt rather than abort

There has been a lot of words written regarding Cy Martz’s column regarding abortion, but a very important word seems to be missing – abortion. Mr. Martz chose to avoid delving little more than surface deep into the issue of a woman’s “right to choose” in favor of portraying conservatives as cold-hearted hypocrites who wish to punish “women who have sex.” In all his examples of conservative policy actually being a catalyst to increase abortion, he never mentioned that conservative groups are strong advocates of adoption through government and church agencies. I guess this little fact would have made conservatives seem; well, a lot less hypocritical and uncompassionate. It is my personal belief that if a woman is considering abortion, and she is capable of delivering a healthy baby with no life threatening risk to herself or her child, the only persons lacking compassion are her and the people urging her to kill her child rather than allow it to have a chance at life with an adoptive family.
