LETTER: Article gave unfair exposure

Editor,

I am writing in response to the article titled, “ASUSU officers hope to come back for more.” I believe that this article has given candidates who hope to return an unfair advantage in their campaign. The article has given these candidates exposure prior to campaign week. Not only does this article give unfair exposure, but it also advertises for the hopeful returnees in general. Let me list a number of statements by candidates that portray this, excluding their names:

“I don’t really know what college is without being involved. I was involved at …”

“Continuing the progress made while in office this year is especially important to …”

” … said there is a learning curve for new members coming into office and with another year, … could get right to work.”

This last statement especially displays the unfair advertisement for hopeful returnees. Let me clarify, I hold no contempt for the hopeful returnees named in the article. But I am surprised that these hopeful returnees wouldn’t turn the opportunity to advertise for themselves down for the sake of fairness. To me, that just shows a lack of integrity.
