LETTER: Cars should’ve been towed
Editor,
This is my third year living on campus, more specifically Valley View Tower and I have always enjoyed living here. Currently, I am concerned with broken promises from housing and lack of respect from other residents. Signs were posted in our dorm that stated:
“Attention Residents!!! Housing is removing the snow! This means that you must move your cars out of the R1 and R2 parking lots by Midnight, Monday, January 17, 2005. You may park in the B lot or the overflow lot east of the soccer field until Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 5:00pm. If you park in the R1 or R2 lot Monday night or on Tuesday, YOU WILL BE TOWED!”
My reason for concern is that I look outside today and see four cars in the R1 parking lot and at least the same amount in the R2. I called various people from Parking to USU Police to housing and then finally physical facilities. Quickly, I was called back and informed that physical facilities was not told of the threat to “tow” violators and thus they weren’t prepared to tow. How can USU Housing say they will tow, and not tell the physical facilities department?
Even those few cars that were still covered in snow managed to move their cars before last night. The B parking lot was open just one row over from R1 for Valley View residents as well, thus people who normally park in R1 wouldn’t have a long walk from the free lot on 1200 East. Those people who remained in the R1 lot are parked on layers of ice, and when they move their cars why would they park back in an iced covered space when others are free of ice. Thus, inevitably forcing those of us that followed directions to park in an iced over space. It took me three days, four people and my front floor mats to get my car out of the parking lot, but I still got it out. I appreciate that parking and housing are finally getting the snow removed, but I do not appreciate the lack of respect some people have for others.
