LETTER: Cartoon was funny, founded

Editor,

I’m not anti-gay by any measure. I’m responding to the letter to the editor about the Dean cartoon being offensive.

Personally, I find this cartoon to be quite funny and completely founded. It was pointing out, by example, in very simple terms which most people understand, an underlying fallacy in the original argument. Further, trying to include God in an argument to favor gay rights, is about as effective as the Dixie Chicks posing nude to regain conservative fans. It doesn’t go over well because the conservatives, who are against gays in the first place, are going to be that way because of a religion which indoctrinated it into them.

Regardless of origin of intent, or religious view, homosexual acts are just as much a conscience decision as terrorist acts, or murder. I find it hard to believe that a terrorist doesn’t have as much an anti-Western sentiment as I have had ardent feelings for members of the female race. That was what the cartoon was trying to say in far fewer words. In a debate as touchy as this, I think we need to find it in ourselves to remain objective before we so quickly back our “allies.”
