LETTER: Church can remove member
Dear Editor,
I cannot believe anyone would suggest The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shouldn’t bother themselves with the personal lives of its members. Would you suggest no organization take a stand when its members are no longer willing to live by the rules of the church?
Across the board, organizations have every right to remove an individual from membership if that person no longer is willing to live by the organization’s rules. The NRA has the right to kick an individual out if the person becomes decidedly anti-gun, and the Sierra Club can deny membership to people in favor of development over environmentalism.
When a person is a member of an organization, whether it is religious or not, they are expected to live by certain guidelines. When they don’t, they should accept the fact that it is the prerogative of that organization to remove them from membership.
