LETTER: Congrats to sports teams
Dear Editor,
Last week was my first Homecoming here at Utah State. First of all, I would like to congratulate the sports teams for their excellent performances. The comeback by the football team in the second half was spectacular (which many fans missed by leaving at halftime). The volleyball team, although on the road, also did well, snapping BYU’s (then ranked No. 13 nationally) home court winning streak on Tuesday and beating the University of Idaho on Friday night. And the weekend before, the cross country teams showed well at their only home meet of the season. Nice job sports teams.
I would have to say though that I was a little disappointed with the Homecoming Dance. My date and I arrived and found a variety of music being played, ranging from jazz to top 40 to even Latin music. But there was no room for country swing, which is my preferred dancing style. Now granted, many are groaning inwardly right now (and perhaps some even outwardly), but country swing is a popular style of dance. Many people, even though they don’t like country music so much, know how to and enjoy country dancing. I heard that in previous years there has been a room with it, but unless it was tucked away in some small, inconspicuous corner last Friday night, it was missing this year. It would have made for a better dance to have had it. Oh well, perhaps next year.
