LETTER: Diversity is a buzzword

Editor,

The street painting by the PRIDE! Alliance of guys hugging guys and girls hugging girls under a rainbow spurred me to think about some issues regarding homosexuality.

Maybe it’s time people stop accepting homosexuality as natural and normal just because some judge says it is. Just because employers have been compelled by the law to tolerate homosexuality doesn’t mean it has to be accepted by individuals. The buzzword “diversity” has been adopted by homosexuals as a tool to shift focus from deviant sexual behavior to the notion that “everyone is different.” This way, when someone speaks out against homosexuality he or she is accused of being “anti-diversity,” of wanting a homogenous, boring society. Hence the true matter at hand is avoided, and people with a sense of morality are perceived as being intolerant of those who are different. It’s time for people to start speaking out and not simply letting liberal judges and lawmakers promote acceptance of deviant behavior.

In any case, to be fair to all, if USU continues to support a homosexual club, maybe next year at Homecoming we’ll see paintings of rainbows with guys hugging guys, women hugging women and men hugging dolphins, just make sure we are being diverse.
