LETTER: ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ not truth

Editor,

I’m disappointed in the USU Democrats pawning off Michael Moore’s movie Fahrenheit 9/11 off as truth. I mean, come on, let’s get serious. OK, I’m going to show the movie “Police Academy” to document what goes on at a real police academy. The USU Republicans should show “FahrenHYPE 9/11,” just to be fair.

Responding to Sara Lundberg (Letters, Oct. 27): Michael Moore has said that he hasn’t lied. Oh wow, I’m going to run right out and believe anything as long as the person talking tells me it’s the truth. MM hates Bush and he will do anything to get him out of office, except lie and misrepresent Bush, of course. I invite all the readers to check out Moore’s facts.

Responding to Chris Thomas (Letters, Oct. 27): Sean Hannity has taken exception with Bush on several issues like illegal immigration, government spending, and school vouchers. He’s not doing a very good job as their “mouth-piece” on these issues.

Responding to the Statesman’s view (Our View, Oct. 25): If UVSC wanted to raise the political awareness in Utah they should have brought in a liberal that is reasonable, not someone who preys on the American public with lies and misconceptions for financial gain. At least Sean Hannity is a respected journalist of “real news.”

I think a senator respected by Democrats and Republicans alike says it best.

John McCain (Washington Post, Aug. 30): “… It was between war and a graver threat. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Not our critics abroad. Not our political opponents. And certainly not a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam’s Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children held inside their walls.”

I think I’ll take the word of a respected Senate member, POW and Vietnam Veteran war hero over a “disingenuous film maker,” college drop-out any day of the week. And America will take its stand around Nov. 15 after Kerry’s 5,000 recounts and re-elect our Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush.

Democrats, you’ll dispute this, and the readers will decide.
