LETTER: Gays need no more benefits
Editor,
I’m responding to the letter titled “College offers new respect.”
First of all, I want to say that I agreed with the scholarship letter. Scholarships shouldn’t be given to people based on who they have sex with.
Contrary to what some radical Democrats may have told you, life as a white, heterosexual is not all peaches and cream, especially in this modern political era of determining who gets what rights. Congratulations to the 42 states that don’t have special laws for students of differing sexualities. We still have eight more to go. Some of these laws are probably dealing with hate crimes which are extremely sexist. I find it laughable how you imply that all of those states would do absolutely nothing to help people tormented by bullies.
Regarding hate crimes, what makes a homosexual so important that there has to be added penalties when a crime is committed against them? If a crime were committed against a heterosexual, the perpetrator would receive a lesser penalty. Our legal system should be blind to sexuality.
