LETTER: It’s about freedom

Editor,

There is a lot of mud slinging going on concerning the expiration of the assault weapons ban. To me, it is not about weapons; it is about freedom. Aren’t we the “land of the free”?

Did you know you now have to license through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) at a cost of hundreds of dollars to buy model rocket motors that weigh more than 2.2 ounces?

How much longer before we need a government-issued permit to exercise freedom of the press? Oh, that would be called a business license.

How much longer before we need the government’s permission to perform a religious rite? You know, like marriage. Oh, excuse me. There already seems to be a marriage license.

How many more constitutionally protected rights will fall under the control of the U.S. government before citizens demand their freedom back?

Freedom, Ms. Editor. It’s about freedom.
