LETTER: Keep simple answers at bay

Editor,

On a campus that struggles to reflect the cultural – let alone racial – diversity of a state that is overwhelmingly white, it is unfortunate that the editors of The Statesman would choose to echo the College Republicans’ oversimplification of the issues swirling around affirmative action and higher education at the very moment the university is celebrating diversity on campus with an awards ceremony. Public universities are places for complex thinking and intellectual discussion of issues, places where simple answers to difficult questions should be kept at bay, not encouraged.
