LETTER: Kerry column missing the ‘why’
Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to the article attempting to compare John Kerry’s platform to communism. Instead of expanding on what a juvenile attempt at slander the article was, I want to bring up another point I was reminded of when I finished reading the article. What about the Bush administration and fascism? When you look at the facts, it’s a match made in heaven.
By definition, fascism is a merging of government and corporation with strong Conservative/religious leaning. Sound familer? Another aspect of the article that grabbed my attention was the heading – “Why the Right is Right.” Nowhere in the article does the author explain why the Right is right. I am always open to new ideas, so please explain to me: Is it right to invade another country that did nothing to harm us (and had NOTHING to do with 9/11)? Is it right to still do business with the country that harbors the terrorists that DID have to do with 9/11? Is it right to push back all the pollution standards it took years to build up? And is it right to use scare tactics to get more votes and also demand that individuals must sign a loyalty oath to enter the RNC convention?
If someone can explain why all this is right, then you’ll sway my vote for sure. In closing, I have to say: Just because you don’t want a candidate to win, does not mean you need make false outrageous statements or comparisons. It’s fine if you want to express your views, just get your facts straight.
