LETTER: Kids must come to class

Editor,

This is in response to the letter to the editor about having children in the classroom. To say that it is inappropriate to have kids in the classroom is just like saying the guy on the second row snoring should be banned also.

Some single people don’t understand how much it takes to be a mother or father, trying to finish school so they can provide for their children. Parents don’t have the luxury of having mom and dad send them money when they can’t pay for the groceries. Daycare is expensive. I have a cousin who is kind enough to spend some time with my children. When she isn’t able to watch them, or doesn’t show up to watch them, I am stuck bringing my children to class because I can’t afford to waste my tuition and miss valuable information given only to the people in the classroom.

The whole nursing thing is blown way out of proportion. Do you eat in class, or do you see people eat in class? I do. Just because it makes you uncomfortable doesn’t mean that a mother should have to work around your feelings and listen to a screaming child when she can fix the problem and feed the baby. I was a nursing mother, and when they are hungry, you can’t wait.

I think that everyone needs to lay off those parents who end up bringing kids to class. Sometimes it just can’t be helped. I don’t ever do it on purpose, and I hardly ever let my children make noise during a lecture. I will leave before that happens. Give us a break. If you would like to set up free babysitting for those of us who can’t afford a permanent setting, be my guest. As of now, I will take them to class when I need to.
