LETTER: Monday’s column irresponsible

To the editor:

I’m embarrassed to say that I read the recent editorial on the difference between men and women. Surely this writer only wrote it aiming to earn the highest number of teeth-gnashing letters to the editor since the inception of the Utah Statesman newspaper.

I wonder what purpose would inspire writing on this sensitive subject. The article does not seem to be informative in any way. I imagine it has the opposite effect that an editorial is supposed to have – this insensitive treatment of the subject is in no way going to rally women to the opinions of its author. I think many more women will be insulted by the tactless presentation of generalizations and accusations, whatever their beliefs are on the role of women in a society.

Honestly, rather than the ideas presented in the article, the manner of the article upsets me because it represents irresponsible journalism in the name of starting controversy. In the future, I hope that the staff of the Statesman will prevent themselves from printing washed-out old arguments and instead, present fresh ideas.
