LETTER: Officer-elect rejects rumors
Editor,
I recently read, with great interest and concern, the Friday, April 8 Utah Statesman article titled, “ASUSUEC race may spawn future problems.” I categorically reject any implication that I was involved, in any way, with the e-mail in question. I do not endorse language that is expressed with the intent to hurt an individual or make them feel unwelcome at USU. The person responsible for the e-mail acted alone and completely unprovoked by me or anyone involved with my campaign. I do not know him, and to my knowledge, have never met him. As the newly elected campus diversity and organizations VP, my charge and duty is to promote, cultivate and proactively encourage diversity on or around campus. I intend to work diligently to accomplish my chartered responsibilities and will strive to activity promote a campus-wide feeling of civility, respect and dignity. I believe it is the fundamental right of every student to feel safe, welcome and a part of a vibrant, intellectual community.
