LETTER: Paper should show both sides

Editor,

I read your paper every week. For a local paper I think your editing and writing staff do pretty well. I am also very confident they will find several grammatical errors in this text.

I appreciate how you give all the clubs and activities a fair share of the spotlight. However, I am a little irritated by that fact that the last few issues of The Statesman have been severely slanted to the left — anti-war protestors and traitors. Why is it that MSNBC reported from a Gallop poll that 79 percent of Americans currently support the war in the gulf, but The Statesman has only reported the anti-war protests, the negative, and the unpatriotic comments of the Democratic Party?

It would seem that the right, Christian, pro-American is in the minority. This simply is not the case. Eighty percent of Americans report they are Christian, as reported by yet another Gallop poll. I have had a gut full of this.

You know your audience. It is time the silent majority be put back into The Statesman.

I also have a comment about the article titled, “War causes continual rise in gas prices.” According to the business report on MSNBC.com, the past week has seen falling oil prices. This can be attributed to increased exports by OPEC and the fact that investors now know how to react now that war in the gulf is a reality. Oil prices are currently at a 4-month low at $26.85 per barrel.

Last month, oil prices peaked at $39.00 per barrel. I too, am concerned with the price of gas, but clearly the war is not the cause of this rape of the consumer. Maybe we should look to the gas stations themselves or the refineries right here in the United States that are taking advantage of the American free market.

Thank you, for your time and your overall good reporting effort. I realize that no one likes a letter of feedback like this one. I do not wish to single out any one writer or member of your staff. I do however, want it known that the silent majority is growing in anger and resentment. We have been patient for long enough. I am confident in your abilities and expect the best. Thank you.
