LETTER: Parking people deserve kudos

Editor,

The parking authority is doing a fine job. They are only doing what is being told of them to do. They are not the ones who made the ordinance, but they are the ones who are contracted through the city of Logan to enforce this. So the people that you are really angry at and need to complain to are the Logan officials who created it.

To say that there is a double standard is nonsense. Should we also get rid of speed limits as well, just because the weather is nice? Or what about the no smoking in buildings? Because it’s cold and there’s a blizzard outside should we let the smokers come in and give us second-hand smoke because they have chosen to smoke like the people who choose to park on the road? Of course not, these types of things have been set up for the good of the community. And no, they can’t get to every street during the night, but the police don’t catch every person speeding either. Does that mean we should put a policeman on every street to enforce that?

To say that people are smart enough to pass a driving test doesn’t mean much. For one, it’s an open-book test. And if these smart people have acquired a driver’s license, then why are there still car accidents?

Here’s another reason why the parking tickets serve the good of the community. People park illegally in one form or another. And because of this, people are needed to correct the wrongdoings of those parked illegally. Now because the people are needed, this creates jobs and increases the economy because of the creation of new jobs.

To say that the people who enforce this law do not have common sense is an insult to all people across America who work in the parking authority industry. So we can either have a community of total chaos with no rules or regulations, or we can make Logan a better place with rules and regulations.
