LETTER: Rapists should suffer for life
Editor,
Once again I am taken aback by the audacity and ignorance of your paper. It is already unacceptable to have a right wing nut case writing why the “right is right,” spreading hate and intolerance, and now you are in support of giving a rapist a second chance by asking the student body to look at what Pak needs?
What about the woman that was raped? What are her needs? Maybe she could use a scholarship to play a game and professors who look the other way at just another jock trying to pass a class. What about her? Where is her second chance at life as a sexually abused woman?
It seems that the message being sent is that it is OK to make choices that parentally hurt others if you can play a sport. Think about the trauma that he caused a woman when he held her at knifepoint and had his way with her. Anyone that has ever gone down that road should never be given a second chance. As a student of psychology I believe in treatment and recovery but you cannot erase the past and this should haunt Pak for the rest of his life.
When will our society deem rape unacceptable and severely punish perpetrators. Of course it is not just a case of punishment to make up for the wrong doing, therapy is needed, but granting opportunities to rapists is an astounding lack judgment and even more insulting to the victim. Joe Kotynek
