LETTER: Since when was library quiet?

Editor,

Since when was the library here for studying? A select number of the student body seems to remain in the dark about the purposes of the library. For their sake, I shall write a short history of libraries.

1975-1999: The library was invented in various makes and sizes. Because there weren’t cell phones, students were forced to speak to each other face to face. Many a couple resulted in this new phenomenon of libraries. 2000: Cell phones have become mainstream, but the library remains an optimal social gathering place. Paris Hilton probably even goes to the library. One can find a semi-quiet place that is optimal for a phone call. Books were added, only to facilitate the needs of “studious” individuals. The library was never about studying, nor will it ever be. People can come to the library and even sleep along the beautiful designer bookshelves.

The constant chatter only adds to the experience!

Wait! Maybe Mr. Cannon has it right after all. Libraries are for studying, but we can have a good time too…
