LETTER: Statesman ad may have financial costs

Dear editor

I am very concerned about the Statesman printing material that a large portion of the student body finds dangerouse, offensive, and obscene, as do many residents of Cache Valley. The Statesman supports itself through student fees and advertising.

I am concerned that enough students may complain to President Quinn and other school officials and the Statesman may lose funding from this source. They have not been approved for additional funding in the past (2004) due to material that the student fee board found obscene that school year.

The Statesman may also lose advertising revenue, which I believe they are already hurting from, when local business owners find that advertising next to what many find obscene can have a negative effect on the image they are trying to portray. I hope that the Statesman creates stronger internal controls so this doesn’t happen again and quickly issues an apology.
