LETTER: Stereotypes devalue comic
To the editor:
I am writing to let everyone know how amazingly intelligent the comic strip “Scootah Steve” is. The author has managed to harness the comic value of negative stereotypes of Native Americans (from which I amdescended) to “reach” his audience. Of course we all know that Native Americans are axe-chucking, pipe-smoking savages that run around shirtless and add “-um” to the end of the white man’s words. Bravo Mr. Weller, for illuminating my own ancestry.
