LETTER: Straw bales a responsability

Dear Editor, The decision of USU to remove the hay bales at the bottom of Old Main Hill for reasons of liability is an irresponsible one. There are things that can be done to reduce liability, such as placements of signs as there already are, as well as ads in The Statesman and The Herald Journal warning the public that they use the hill at their own risk. I think being socially responsible and caring for the safety of students as well as young children should be placed above USU’s cowardly fears of a lawsuit. I hope USU realizes that a broken arm or leg due to a straw bale is minor. And I hope they realize it before some 10 year old is killed by a car because of the stupid decision to remove the bales.
