LETTER: Strive to better the university

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the “Candidate answers lacking” letter in the March 8 edition of The Utah Statesman. I have been a student at this university for a couple of years, and more importantly a member of its community for more than 10 years.

Interpretation of any message rests squarely on the shoulders of the receiver. There is no question a response to a question will either be interpreted as right or wrong depending on which side of an issue the receiver is on. Basically interpretation is relevant to that person.

I find it interesting the response of the candidate is quoted but the question is not. Ms. Bybee’s response was not a matter of self-importance, rather a direct reflection of long hours, hard work and commitment to this university. This is a fact known and respected by our elected state officials. She is a great representative of the students, faculty and administration Utah State has to offer.

Ms. Bybee did not win the election with a lack of imagination, breaking trademark laws, stepping on candidates toes or any other negative campaigning. She won by putting herself on the line and letting the voters make informed, educated decisions based on facts and the truth.

I feel once you sit down and talk with our president elect you will find your answer to “why are they even running?” Join those who strive to make this university the best it can be.
