LETTER: Terror wins again in Spain

Editor,

With the mass transit bombings in Madrid more and more conclusively linked to Al Qaida, America and the world grieves with Spain. Americans know well the pain they are going through. Unfortunately, the injured voters of Spain have gravely misplaced their anger.

Faced with an enemy that slaughtered thousands of its allies’ citizens, the Spanish government bravely supported America’s war on terror even though popular support in Spain was light. Now, it is a telling sign about the mood of the Spanish populous, and possibly the EU as a whole, that citizens in Spain are more upset with their politicians than they are with the terrorists who killed their brothers, sisters, parents and children.

An outrageous claim, you say? I simply base this on the action taken by the voters in Spain. If they wanted to destroy Al Qaida, there is no more committed country than America. Instead, they have risen to vote out of power the man who “made Spain a target.” Instead of confronting the killers, they vote to leave them alone. Let them plan to kill who, when, and however many they can.

The terrorists have won this round.
