LETTER: Time to hear right voice
Editor,
I’m writing to weigh in against the intolerant, closed-minded deeds of those people whose actions of hatred are an insult to all freedom-loving Americans. Their refusal to exercise tolerance for those with differing values is an insult and their lack of sensitivity for diversity reminds me of Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, where criticism of the establishment was met with violent reprisal.
I’m referring, of course, to those few people who shouted epithets and obscenities, threw cake, and unplugged the microphones at the rally and those who continue to condemn it in print. For diversity-aware, inclusive, tolerant, progressive, open-minded and accepting people, they sure aren’t. Tom Robins and the College Republicans dared to publicly state an opinion different from their own and they cried bloody murder. To paraphrase Robins: Liberals love free speech, except when someone else has the microphone.
I applaud Robins and the CRs for speaking out for me and untold millions of Americans in this debate. In response to Brandon Gibson’s column of Feb. 25 I submit that no apology is ever in order for standing up for what’s right. Too long have conservative God-fearing people stood idly by while their values have been assaulted by the Copy Ed 3/2/04 intolerant tolerant? intolerant tolerant voice of political correctness. It’s about time that a conservative got up on a soapbox with a bullhorn and gave a little back.
If you want a Diversity VP who really cares about all points of view and isn’t a liberal sock-puppet vote for Tom Robins. If you want real diversity and not the diversity that’s a code word for “liberalism” vote for Tom Robins.
If you’re happy with the politically correct status quo, vote for someone else.
Keep up the good work, College Republicans.
Rob Andreason
