Letter to the Editor: Americans should stand up to protestors
Editor,
Once again the United States flag is being burned by another 3rd world, degenerate country full of ignorant, uneducated imbeciles. I believe in freedom of speech therefore, although I may not like it, they can burn any flag they want to. While on the other hand I can call them imbeciles. In Denmark, a newspaper exercising their freedom of speech printed some caricatures of Muhammad.
Local protests abound but nothing too extreme took place, until a prominent member of the Danish Muslim community took copies of those caricatures (along with some that weren’t published) and sent them to countries he knew would react violently. As a result, Danish embassies have been destroyed and now the people of Denmark live in fear.
Once again, the U.S. has been brought into it. The protestors not only burn the Danish flag, but the Israeli and American flags as well. Did we print the caricatures? NO!
What do we, as Americans, do about it? I offer to you, nothing. We are complete invalids when it comes to defending our name and flag and I don’t know why.
I remember a time when we were wholly united as a country. Our unity saw no race, no political affiliation and no gender. We were all Americans, and we wouldn’t stand for such an attack. We wanted action, we wanted justice and have we received it? In my opinion, not fully; but our unity has faltered.
We are a completely split nation once again, so that when we are openly mocked and ridiculed throughout the world we do nothing. While they have the freedom to burn our flag, we have the freedom to defend ourselves. I’m afraid that we’ve lost this freedom in the mire of pornography and defending other’s rights to announce anti-American sentiments which we now label as “freedom of speech.”
Freedom of speech’s only purpose isn’t to protect and establish an outlet for controversial subject matter, it was also meant for us to utilize in defense of our rights and name. So l being weaklings and stand up to these hypocritical, unjustified Ishmaelites.
