Letter to the Editor: Smokers have right to smoke on campus
Editor,
As a smoker myself, I am just plain sick and tired of reading the editorials about how we smokers are turning the USU campus into a disgusting, smoke-ridden sinkhole of carcinogens. There’s a pretty famous document called the U.S. Constitution which guarantees every citizen certain rights. If I want to smoke, I’m going to, and unless tobacco is nationally outlawed, there’s not a bloody thing you can do about it. As for the people whose delicate nasal passages we are offending, I’d like to remind them that it is entirely possible to hold one’s breath, or not breathe in any second-hand smoke one might be passing through. Or, here’s an idea…if you know you’ll be passing by a smoker, why not take a different route and avoid the problem altogether. The last time I checked, there are multiple doors on most every building here on campus. Also, have you ever passed by someone with bad B.O.? Yes, it happens, but I’m not planning on petitioning to make deodorant use mandatory in the state of Utah. So please, give it a rest, and find something worthwhile to which you can divert your energy, instead of using it to complain about my lifestyle. That’s all I have to say.
