Letter to the Editor: Smoking laws aren’t enforced at USU
Editor,
In response to the column “Smoking issue is just the beginning at USU,” I would like to remind everyone that cars are not yet against the law, but smoking within 25 feet from a building is prohibited in Utah. However this law is sadly not enforced on this campus. I happen to have asthma and I do not appreciate exiting buildings, (especially the TSC and Ray B. West buildings) and walking into the very vehement cloud of cigarette smoke; breathing it in aggravates my lungs.
On a personal note, I think it very lame to label a majority of non-smokers as
people who look upon ‘TSC patio smokers’ as the “sin-brew.” The fact is that
the smell is often unpleasant for those of us who don’t smoke (which is probably one of the reasons why we don’t do it).
So, if anybody is so concerned about “non-smokers” labeling “smokers” as
“sinners” and “imposing our way of life on you,” then maybe you should point a
finger in your own direction and not impose your stench upon the rest of
society by smoking so close to the buildings!
