LETTER: TSC admin. tough on clubs
To the editor:
As a year of frustration comes to an end, the Independent Music Club will be putting on its final event despite the TSC Administration’s determination to make it difficult.
Our latest incident caps off a year of fighting selectively applied policy and enforcement put in place by the TSC Administration. A call woke me up Wednesday morning regarding our chalk promotion at the doors of the TSC for our event tonight. I was told I needed to get a bucket and wash the chalk off immediately.
Instead of giving us a bucket at 8 a.m., the TSC Administration could have shown their support and fairness by asking us to make sure the chalk got cleaned up after the event and by letting us know not to chalk there in the future.
We don’t expect much, but we do expect some fairness and consideration by the administration. The TSC needs to make clubs aware of policies and make them student and club friendly.
The IMC is committed to bringing quality performances to the campus by local and touring acts. Friday’s show will be costing us 700 dollars out of our own pockets. We depend on student attendance to break even.
The IMC is a registered USU club that receives no support financially or personally for its events.
We believe in what we are doing and we are doing it to add life to the USU campus. We aren’t out to cause a ruckus. We are out to enhance the quality of life for USU students. This is college and is supposed to be an experience academically and socially for everyone.
We would like to thank those who have supported us; the ROTC who invited us to do an event and treated us with respect, the students support and attendance at our events, bands that have played and the members of the IMC. We are grateful for your kindness and enthusiasm for music.
We hope to see you tonight!
