LETTER: VITA volunteers generous
Editor,
We have a lot of great people here at USU who often volunteer their precious time to give others a hand. As a specific example, I’d like to point out the VITA volunteers who are providing free income tax assistance.
My taxes are normally very simple, but this year things were a little different so rather than make a mistake and face the wrath of the IRS, I went to the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) in the Business Building to get some extra help. It was a Saturday morning and the line was long, but I had lots of homework so I worked on that while I waited. At one point I looked around and realized that many, perhaps most, of the volunteers were students who probably had their own homework. Rather than getting their own projects done (or simply enjoying a Saturday), these people were spending their time to help the rest of us avoid Uncle Sam’s fury. I sure appreciated it and I’m quite confident the majority of those who left with their taxes done felt the same way. Thanks for being so generous with your time.
