LETTER: Was Sigma Nu letter a joke?

Dear Editor,

In response to “Sigma Nu Disappoints” – I have to admit I’m not a member of Sigma Nu, but as I read this article at first I thought it was a joke. (There was a frat party flyer stapled to a tree on campus, which, in the letter to the editor, stains their honor.) Since it obviously wasn’t a joke, I have to say what a joke the statement was. Do trees have equal rights like people? I mean, this is such a disaster so we should have a funeral for the tree and close down USU. I can guarantee that everyone has used at least 100 things made of wood. When was the last time you sat on a wood chair or ate at a wood table or walked through a wood door? What is your house made of? The answer is wood. When you hang your wood-framed pictures on your home walls, more than likely you are nailing into a 2×4. ( By the way, a 2×4 is wood) I do believe that we should take care of our environment, but if you think two staples is going to stop the tree from growing next spring, camp out and watch! This is extreme! The environment is for the use of people; it always has been and always will be. Stapling a flyer to the tree doesn’t dishonor Sigma Nu or mankind for that matter.
