LETTER: What is politically correct?

Dear Editor,

We are tired of people blaming “political correctness” for preventing them from acting on their prejudices. What in the world is “politically correct” about expecting respect and standing up to hate? Keep up the good work and keep fighting, Pride Alliance. Stand up against hatred and bigotry. Every argument against you has been said before. Sometimes the title “gay” has been replaced by “black” or “Jew,” but the arguments have always been the same, the hatred has always been the same and the backward justifications have always been the same. Slowly, slowly the hate has been exposed and understood for what it is. Some never will stop hating, but lots of people will listen and realize that we are all equal and deserving of the same respect, the same rights and the same freedoms.
