LETTER: White males at times excluded

Editor,

I have an issue with some of the discrimination practices on campus. I have a friend who is working to get into graduate school. He gets e-mails daily for women and minority opportunities only. He rarely gets an e-mail that allows him to participate in anything, because he is a white male! I swear this is discrimination.

Can you imagine how the heads would roll if we sent out an e-mail for white male opportunities? But yet, it is OK for them to send one out for women and minorities. I haven’t even touched the surface. There are scholarships for minorities and women only.

Again, imagine the reaction of a white male scholarship. While I feel that allowing women and minorities the opportunity, I don’t think anything should exclude white males. It even goes into admittance to schools and work. There are statistics that show the ratios of women and minorities to white males, for everything. I am not racist by any means, but I feel that we have gotten to a point where it is safe to say, we have gone way too far. This may raise some heated discussions, but I think it is something that needs to be looked at. There are so many un-Constitutional ideas in this practice of counter discrimination.

We can’t change a world of thoughts by exploring this, but maybe we can start a ripple that would lead to a wave, and then we can truly say that we have equal opportunities for all, even white males.
