Logan City Council election results

After a recount held on Dec. 13 and 14, the final results of the Logan City Council election have been announced. There were three seats open with six candidates in the general election. The three candidates elected to the seats on the council were Mark Anderson, Mike Johnson and Jeannie Simmonds.

The recount was possible due to the small margin between the number of votes for Simmonds, Joe Needham and Katie Lee-Koven. Lee-Koven requested the recount after the canvass held on Dec. 5.

The recount was conducted over two days under the joint supervision of an election team from Cache County and representatives from the office of Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson.

The recount ballot results changed slightly from the unofficial results announced at the Dec. 5 canvass. Simmonds’ vote count went from 2,419 to 2,427, Needham’s vote count increased from 2,400 to 2,411 and Lee-Koven’s vote count increased from 2,388 to 2,403.

The votes for Anderson and Johnson were also recounted. Anderson’s ballot count went from 3,449 to 3,467 and Johnson’s increased from 2,892 to 2,909.

A canvass was held on Dec. 18 to go over the election results after the recount. This is where the final election results were announced, solidifying Anderson, Johnson and Simmonds as the winners of the election.
