Marriage Viewed Differently In Utah
Dear Editor,I am not sure if I have ever seen an article in the Statesman with more assumptions and fewer facts that the one by Julie Sulunga (“Marriage Viewed Differently in Utah” 3/21/01) Sulunga starts her article by asking what subject is heard of in almost every priesthood meeting of USU single wards each Sunday. How many priesthood meetings has Julie been to? Did she just hear that from a friend of hers? Yes, a lot of people who are members of the Church get married young. And some couples do struggle. But the rate of divorce is about 50% nation- wide. Utah’s divorce rate is about the same. So is marriage really viewed differently in Utah as compared with the rest of the nation? Or was this an article with an author and a few of her friends trying to express their gripes about the culture here?
