Men’s basketball suffers third straight loss

Looking to get back in the win column after two straight losses, the Utah State men’s basketball team was unable to overcome a short bench in a 74-68 loss to the University of Texas-Arlington Thursday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Junior guard Spencer Butterfield finished with a game-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but the Aggies committed 17 turnovers – 12 in the first half – and were plagued by foul trouble in the second half.

USU shot 36 percent from the field compared to 40 percent for UT-Arlington, and the Mavericks bench outscored the Utah State bench 26-5 on the night.

Utah State returns to action Saturday when the Aggies host the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
