After splitting a pair of games this weekend against Division II rivals Southern Colorado University and Western State University, the Utah State men’s lacrosse team is now 5-4 as they approach their postseason tournament.

The team lost it’s first game against Western State 12-9 Friday, but recovered Saturday when they blew out the University of Southern Colorado, 20-3.

Coach Jeremy Miller, who had guaranteed wins this weekend, was disappointed by the number of players who didn’t make the trip.

“Our loss was all due to the fact that we had only two middie [midfielder] lines,” Miller said. “Lots of key players were not able to make the trip and that hurt us a lot.”

Offensively, Paul Larkin was phenomenal, Miller said. He said Larkin scored 10 goals in the two games. New players and brothers Brock and Derald Miller also provided an offensive spark.

“Brock and Derald worked twice as hard to fill in for missing guys,” Miller said.

Defensively, Miller said the team was led by goalies Jake Morrison and Ben Cole.

USU’s next game will be against Division I leader BYU – one of the top club teams in the country.

With the playoffs approaching the team remains hopeful, Miller said. He said he expects injured players to return, and still expects to win the Division II title.
