Men’s lacrosse club to play pair of games in Colorado

For the second weekend in a row the men’s lacrosse team will travel to Colorado for a pair of games as the Aggies face the University of Southern Colorado Friday and Western State University on Saturday.

The Aggies have beaten both teams already this year.

However, defenseman Matt Polityka said this weekend’s games could present more of a challenge because the Aggies will be without many of their players who are either out by injury or are not able to make the trip.

“We’re going to have a lot of people out,” Polityka said. “So we’re going to really have to step it up.”

Polityka also said taking road trips like they have the past couple of weeks can take a toll on the team.

“Yeah, road trips are tough,” Polityka said. “But we still feel like these are games that we can win.”

The Aggies will try to make good on coach Jeremy Miller’s guarantee the team will not lose another game this season. Miller made the guarantee after USU’s 14-11 victory over the Colorado School of Mines on March 30.

Currently, the Aggies sport a 4-3 record. After this weekend, they will only have a couple of games left before the playoffs begin.

“We’re looking forward to the playoffs,” Polityka said. “We feel confident, and we should have most of our guys who are out back to play.”

Utah State’s next home game will be against in-state rival and perennial national power BYU. BYU won the United States Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associate national championship for the 2000 season.
