Men’s lacrosse travels to Boise, looking for fourth straight win

Utah State’s men’s lacrosse club looks to extend its winning streak to three as it takes on Boise State Saturday in Boise, Idaho.

The Aggies are also looking to extend their winning streak against BSU as they defeated them 6-0 in the fall.

Although Saturday’s game will not count as a division game, there will be plenty on the line when the Aggies face the team that knocked them out of contention in last year’s league final.

“Our games with Boise State have become quite the rivalry,” said Head Coach Eddie Vega. “This matchup is even becoming more of a rivalry than our games with Utah and BYU.”

Vega said he hopes to harness the team’s energy going into Saturday’s game and help them put together a complete game. In last weekend’s games he noticed that the Aggies’ play fluctuated too much throughout the game.

“If we put together a complete game we will be fine,” he said. “We are a better team than Boise, and that’s what it all boils down to.”

Two players that have definitely put together complete games lately are Warner Behrmann and Kyle Fiat. Behrmann was asked to play goalie in last weekend’s games due to Jake Morrison being sick.

Behrmann made the most of his opportunity, recording 35 saves on 46 shots, as the Aggies went 2-0 over the weekend. His performance has also put him at the top of the league goalie list as he is tied with BYU’s Christian Kikumoto for the second-best save percentage in the league.

“Warner was fantastic last weekend,” said club president Nate Daniels. “He moved from attack into goal, and was able to make some great plays for us when we needed them.”

With Warner playing so well, Vega has a dilemma most coaches would love: two great goalies.

“My decision about who will play goal is going to be a game-time decision,” Vega said. “I’ll evaluate how everyone is feeling and go from there.”

While Warner has been a rock on defense, Fiat has been turning heads on the offensive side of the ball. The sophomore has 15 more points than anyone else in the league and is second in the league in points per game.

“Kyle is a pleasure to watch,” Vega said. “He is a guy you can give minimal direction to, then just sit back and watch him do his thing.”

The Aggies’ next home game is April 12 against Utah Valley State College. The game starts at 1 p.m. at Tower Field.
