Men’s tennis beats Weber
In February of this year, the Weber State Wildcats beat the Aggies in a close match, 4-3.
Wednesday, the Aggies evened up the score, dominating the Wildcats 5-2.
The USU men’s tennis team won in a convincing manner Wednesday as they beat Weber State. The match was held down at Weber.
The Aggies took all three doubles matches, earning them the doubles point. Tyden and Ericsson won 8-3, Young and Schenk won 8-7, and Banks and Ballam won 8-4. It was a solid performance for the Aggie doubles.
The Aggies, who have struggled this year with consistency throughout their team, put together a solid match. Each doubles group played hard and consistent throughout their match, which is something that their coach has been looking for.
“I like the effort from everyone,” Head Coach Christian Wright said of Wednesday’s match. “We are finding the consistency that we needed.”
In the singles matches the Aggies won four of the six matches. Freshman Oscar Ericsson won his match, 6-3, 6-4, and improved to 8-4 for the season. Ericsson has shown vast improvement this year, moving up to the number one singles spot a few matches ago.
At the number two singles position, Hannes Schenk won in a see-saw battle, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Jonas Tyden (6-1, 6-4) and Mike Banks (6-2, 6-2) each won their matches in the fourth and sixth singles positions. The four singles matches and the doubles point helped lift the Aggies to the 5-2 victory. The win helped to remedy the lose they suffered earlier in the year against the southern rivals.
The Aggies will look to build on the progress they have made this Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Boise to play Fresno State and Boise State. Hopefully they will be able to maintain the consistent play that has helped them find success in recent matches.
