The Utah State men’s tennis team picked up their first win of the season against Weber State Wednesday 5-4.

It started with the number one pair for USU, Sven Polusny and Marcus Fritz, coming back from four games down to one to win 8-6. Polusny then carried that momentum into his singles match to win 6-3, 6-2.

The match was clinched after a three-and-a-half hour match won by No. 2 singles player Fredrick Peterson by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. The match ended with an eruption from the rest of the team as the win was clinched.

“The win was definitely inspired by the lack of season wins,” said co-head coach Bryan Marchant. “There have been many close losses and players have come up short. Today, they really wanted it.”

The next match is Friday Feb. 8 against Montana State at noon at the sports complex.
