MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Passion’ graphic yet powerful
Grade A+
Believer or non-believer, “The Passion of the Christ” delivers way more than anybody had ever anticipated. If a grade higher than ‘A’ existed, I would mark this film with that. It truly is a film you must experience before making judgments about it.
Amidst the controversy swirling around Mel Gibson, he still managed to direct, produce and write the most powerful film I have ever seen. He had been accused of portraying the last 12 hours of Christ’s life in a very fictional, biased way. In fact, the movie was about as realistic as you reading a newspaper.
The main problem the “professional” critics have with the film is the excruciating sequences of violence. Believe me, this film takes graphic violence to an unimaginable level.
But wait … wasn’t the crucifixion of Jesus extremely graphic in the first place?
As any film would do on the sensitive subject of Jesus’ crucifixion, they keep it clean. “The Passion of the Christ” isn’t the least bit afraid to depict how graphic the crucifixion was. I found myself afraid to look at the screen a few times, in fear of seeing the most disturbing act ever put on a film reel.
At the same time, the film portrays a message that essentially can’t be expressed in words. The overall message of the film is ultimate, unconditional love for everyone. As corny as it may sound on paper, the film delivers this message in a powerful, almost life-changing way.
Despite the graphic violence, the movie is absolutely beautiful. The camera work is stunning. The editing is right on the button. The acting is flawless. Every aspect of the film thoroughly impressed me.
If you are Christian, or you just like to watch really good movies, this movie is vital. If you know anything about the crucifixion, you’d know that it was a malicious act. But I don’t think the majority of us realize what it was really like. This film will do a great job of depicting the reality encompassed in the most important event in history.
Yes, I know, it’s rated R. Regardless of the rating, go see it. You will not be disappointed.
I may sound like I am raving uncontrollably over a good movie, and a majority of the critics didn’t appreciate the film nearly as much as I did. But, I don’t think I’m overplaying this one bit.
Hands down, “The Passion of the Christ” was the best movie I have ever seen. Never in my life have I struggled so much to keep the tears inside (or behind) my eyes. Needless to say, I failed at that attempt … miserably.
I have never cried during a movie. This movie really is that powerful and really does pour your emotions all over the floor. Don’t be ashamed, guys. It’s OK to get in touch with a movie once in awhile.
