Mr. and Ms. International crowned

USU got a taste of the exotic on Nov. 17 when 10 students from eight countries vied for the title of Mr. and Ms. International in the TSC Ballroom.

While most contestants sang or danced to display their talents, Purushotham Kamath, from India, performed a pantomime.

Though the focus of the annual contest was on the people performing, during a break one contestant spoke to the crowd about trying to aid people in developing countries.

At the end of the night, Man Chun Hui from Hong Kong, China, was crowned Mr. International. Chunhui was an actor in Hong Kong and has taken part in about 10 movies. He wants to continue acting.

He said he was very excited to get the title of Mr. International. “It’s really great to have all the people and a big show,” he said.

Ms. International is Amrita Dubey from India. She performed an a cappella Indian song.

“I cannot describe it,” said Dubey about winning Ms. International. “It’s a great feeling. I feel on the moon.”

Dubey says she is an extrovert and likes to make new friends and mingle with people from other countries. She is working toward a doctorate in biology with an emphasis in cancer research. She wants to serve the community through research.

This year’s other female participants were Hilda America Castillo from Honduras, Stella Henry Amon from Tanzania, Claudine Endju Pungu from Congo and Eri Masugi from Japan.

The men that competed were Luis Ramier Ballester from the Dominican Republic, Mojtaba Borhani Dariane from Iran, Junji Iha from Japan and Purushotham Kamath of India.
